During 2006, Grobbel Environmental & Planning designed and built a three tiered, constructed wetland at the Inland Seas Education Association (ISEA) along Suttons Bay on Lake Michigan. The system is designed to store and treat up to an 100-year rain event, and treats stormwater runoff from the Village of Suttons Bay through a grassed waterway, leading to two constructed wetland basins. Each basin was planted with native emergent and submergent plant species. Basin one is shallow, and replicates a wet meadow wetland type. Basin two has open water continuously for dabbling duck and other wildlife habitat. A self-guided tour with beautiful booklet illustrated by Traverse City artist Glenn Wolf fare available to introduce visitors to the green treatment system and wetland ecology. Come see the “green-up” spring of 2007!
